When I was about seven, I was in a skit for Friday assembly. I was the main character (always my favourite role…), and I played a boy who was about to walk to school. The weather was threatening to rain, so I was told to take an umbrella.
I still remember the blue and yellow umbrella that I used as a prop, with the faux leather handle (yes… that’s me and my umbrella in the pic). I walked around the stage, pretending to be on my walk to school, and the rain started bucketing down. As my mom had advised, I carried the umbrella conscientiously, but I still got soaking wet.
I didn’t open the umbrella.
The moral of the skit was that if we don’t correctly use the things we have, they won’t do us any good. I had to open the umbrella for it to keep me dry.
It’s a simple children’s skit, but I still think of it today when I work with financial professionals who have websites, blogs and newsletters and don’t use them to digitize their client relationships.
If you’re not using it, you’re losing it.
Here are three things to update today:
WEBSITE
Blogs are the easiest way to keep your site up to date. Even if you create one a month, that’s a good start. If blogging is not your thing – chat to me today; we have a content subscription for Financial Advisers that gets you several blogs, uploaded directly to your site, every month.
EMAIL DATABASE
Sending monthly emails are important to keep in touch with your clients – but if your database is old, or not updated regularly, you will lose all the value in this tool. Remember – hashtagKeepInTouch – hashtagKeepYourClients.
There are three things you want to be doing on LinkedIn, three times a week. Create Content (distributing from your blogs is best), Create Conversations and Create Connections. We do monthly training on how to do all of this in under three minutes! Again – chat with me if you need a hand.
