It always seems easier when other people do it. As I stand over the block and feel the hardwood clenched within my fists, the weight of the axe becomes a welcome respite to the light touch of my keyboard. Ironic – given that this is actual heavy lifting. Paradoxical, even, when I consider the weight of the words that I get to lift for my clients.
Months of chopping firewood have created a routine in my life that is still new and invigorating. I’ve learnt how to swing without hurting my shoulder (by hurting my shoulder…). I’ve learnt how to stand so that the follow-through doesn’t catch my shins (by hitting them square on). I have a fair certainty of where the chopped pieces are most likely to land, how many pieces I can chop in a session and how a sharp axe feels when it slices the wood.
And let me tell you, a sharp axe makes a world of difference.
“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” – Abraham Lincoln
Sharpening the axe is not the strategy. Sharpening the axe only the first four hours of a six-hour strategy.
We can be very busy with all the tasks we shouldn’t be doing. We’ll be busy – but we won’t be building. Often – we need to focus on one or two tasks in order to build our next business step or secure that next invoice.
Building your online brand could be the next step.
Just as I’ve discovered the importance of a sharp axe for my firewood-chopping endeavours, it’s vital to have a sharp online brand for financial planning professionals looking to thrive in today’s digital landscape.
A well-defined online presence is capable of cutting through the noise and standing out in the competitive world of financial planning.
To ensure your online brand is razor-sharp, consider focusing on the following key aspects:
- Unique brand narrative: Develop a compelling story that communicates your values, expertise, and dedication to your clients’ financial success. This will help you stand out in a crowded market and resonate with your target audience.
- Engaging content: Create informative and engaging content that showcases your industry knowledge and provides value to your clients. This can include blog posts, newsletters, and social media updates that keep your clients informed and engaged with your services.
- Consistent visual identity: Establish a cohesive visual identity across all digital channels, including your website, social media profiles, and email communications. A consistent visual brand will create a memorable impression and foster trust among your clients.
- Social media strategy: Optimize your social media presence by sharing valuable content, engaging in conversations, and showcasing your expertise. By actively participating on platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook, you can build stronger connections with clients and prospects alike.
- Responsive and accessible communication: Be readily available to address client inquiries and concerns, demonstrating your commitment to their overall well-being. Quick and personalised responses can help establish trust and maintain strong client relationships.
By focusing on these key areas, you’ll be able to sharpen your online brand, allowing you to cut through the competition and establish yourself as a leader in the financial planning industry.
Remember, just as a sharp axe makes a world of difference when chopping firewood, a sharp online brand can be the key to unlocking new opportunities and fostering lasting client relationships in the world of financial planning.
